Boxing: Andre Dirrell Withdraws from Oct. 17 PBC Bout due to Medical Reasons

The Oct. 17 Premier Boxing Champions card on NBC was expected to be an intriguing one, as it was loaded with high-level contenders and champions. However, the main event between Lamont Peterson and Felix Diaz Jr. will have a new co-feature.

Andre Dirrell was originally slated to face Blake Caparello in the second slot on the marquee, but Dirrell withdrew this week due to undisclosed medical reasons, so a replacement for the televised portion of the event was needed.

Replacing the Dirrell-Caparello duel will be a 10-round welterweight affair between knockout artists Prichard Colon (16-0, 13 KOs) and Terrel Williams (14-0, 12 KOs). Colon was a five-time Puerto Rican champion in the amateurs and has been compared to a young Felix Trinidad. He last fought in September where he knocked out former world champion Vivian Harris. Williams took out Tavorus Teague earlier this year before scoring a lopsided decision over John Williams in August.

Also on the undercard will be Anthony Peterson (35-1, 23 KOs), the younger brother of Lamont Peterson, in a 10-round junior welterweight encounter against an opponent to be named.

The rest of the prelims include Jimmy Lange (38-6-2, 25 KOs) taking on Mike Sawyer (6-4, 4 KOs) in an eight-round light heavyweight bout; David Grayton (12-0, 9 KOs) versus Christopher Degollado (13-5, 11 KOs) in an eight-round welterweight affair; Demond Nicholson (14-1, 14 KOs) against Milton Nunez (28-14-1, 25 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight contest; Lenox Allen (19-0-1, 12 KOs) against Istvan Zeller (24-8, 7 KOs) in a 10-round super middleweight bout; Kareem Martin (6-0-1, 3 KOs) in a six-round welterweight fight; Tommy Logan (3-1, 3 KOs) in a four-round lightweight affair; and middleweight Alantez Fox (16-0-1, 6 KOs) in an eight-rounder.

The event will be held at Eaglebank Arena at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. NBC will begin its live telecast at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.
