Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. Mega Fight to be Played Live in Select Movie Theaters

Fathom Events and Golden Boy Promotions are teaming up for what is expected to be the biggest fight in the sport of boxing for the first half of 2017. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will square off against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on May 6 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but fight fans will be able to watch the action live from within the comfort of select movie theaters across the U.S.

The theaters that televise the bout will do on a one-time basis live while the pay-per-view takes place. The action will begin at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Tickets can be purchased at participating theater locations’ box offices or only at Fathom Events’ official site. The tickets go on sale Friday, April 7.

“Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr. is one of the best, if not the best fighter in history,” said Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs). “I grew up watching him and learned a lot from him, but that won't have any influence when I fight his son. I want to remind you that when two Mexican fighters face-off, a spectacular show is guaranteed, and I can assure you that May 6 will be no exception.”

“This is going to be a tough fight,” added Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs). “Every fight is important, and this one especially because it is between two Mexicans fighting each other for the glory. I'm going to win, but my country will too, because this is the fight that boxing needs.”
