Danny Garcia vs. Robert Guerrero to Headline PBC on Fox Debut
Premier Boxing Champions continues to tighten its grip on American
television as the company recently inked a deal with the only major
network remaining: Fox. PBC on Fox will debut on Jan. 23 and will
be anchored by a welterweight showdown featuring Danny Garcia and
Robert Guerrero.
The showdown will headline a card that will be aired live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles during a two-hour block beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5p.m. PT.
Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) has amassed an impressive resume thus far
into his still-blossoming career. He’s toppled the likes of former
world champions Lamont Peterson, Erik Morales (twice), Zab Judah
and Amir Khan, with his signature win coming over Lucas Matthysse
two years ago. “Swift” most recently fought in August where he
dominated Paulie Malignaggi, stopping the veteran in the ninth.
Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) hung tough with all-time great Floyd Mayweather, albeit in a losing effort, in May 2013. He’s also locked horns with Keith Thurman and Andre Berto, with his most recent performance coming in June where he edged the tough Aron Martinez over 10 rounds.
The WBC announced Wednesday that the Garcia-Guerrero tussle will be a part of its new four-man welterweight tournament, which will also include the winner of Cesar Barrionuevo vs. Azael Cosio and another combatant to be named soon.
