Oscar Negrete Stops Sergio Frias in GBP on ESPN2 Main Event
Unbeaten Colombian contender Oscar Negrete was sensational Friday
night in dominating Sergio Frias before stopping him late in the
fight. The two headlined the latest edition of Golden Boy
Promotions on ESPN2 and Negrete never looked better.
Negrete (17-0, 7 KOs) dazzled his Mexican counterpart early and often as he drilled him with precise punches to the head and body in every round. With Frias (19-7-2, 10 KOs), who was a late replacement, dropped in the third and fading down the stretch, Negrete turned up the heat and unloaded a crisp flurry of shots upstairs. When the eighth round ended, Frias’ corner had seen enough and halted the bout.
Additional action inside Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif., saw Genaro Gamez take Devon James out in the first; Ryan Martin edged Marcos Jimenez via unanimous decision; Keandre Gibson beat Dennis Dauti via unanimous nod.
