In a tightly contested, five-round title fight at UFC 181, Robbie Lawler edged Johny Hendricks via split decision to claim the Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight crown.
Judges Sal D’Amato, Marcos Rosales and Glenn Trowbridge all agreed on rounds one and five for Lawler, but rounds two, three and four were all over the place. In the end, D’Amato ruled in favor of Hendricks 48-47, while Rosales (48-47) and Trowbridge (49-46) gave the fight to Lawler.
The first meeting between the two men at UFC 171 was equally close on the judges’ scorecards, with all three overseers ruling in favor of “Big Rigg” by scores of 48-47.
