Sherdog’s Top 10: Hypothetical UFC-Bellator Crossover Fights
No. 2
2. Robert Whittaker vs. Gegard Mousasi
Whittaker won “The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes,” struggled to find consistency at 170 pounds and then hit his stride as a middleweight. During his current eight-fight winning streak, the 26-year-old has graduated from prospect to contender to champion, capturing the interim middleweight title with a unanimous decision over 2000 Olympic silver medalist Yoel Romero at UFC 213 in July. On the mend following knee surgery, Whittaker expects to return to the Octagon sometime in the first quarter of 2018, perhaps in a blockbuster unification bout with middleweight champion Georges St. Pierre. Mousasi, meanwhile, has been one of MMA’s most prolific and successful fighters since he debuted in April 2003. He has already won titles in the Strikeforce, Dream and Cage Warriors Fighting Championship organizations and has now set his sights on Bellator gold following a successful run in the UFC. Mousasi, 32, boasts 35 finishes among his 43 pro wins.
