Suphisara vs. Brasil

Women’s Strawweights

Konklak Suphisara (8-3, 5-2 UFC) vs. Bruna Brasil (9-3-1, 1-1 UFC)

ODDS: Suphisara (-265), Brasil (+215)

It has gone somewhat under the radar, but Suphisara’s success has been an interesting subplot in the UFC women’s strawweight division. The UFC’s first Thai fighter, Suphisara was a lifelong muay thai artist before transitioning to mixed martial arts in 2018 and making it to the UFC in short order. The main concern for Suphisara at the UFC level was that she is a natural atomweight, but that has not been much of an issue during her time inside the Octagon. Getting outwrestled by Lupita Godinez in 2021 looks much more forgivable now, and otherwise, Suphisara has shown some consistent strength parity and even the ability to bully some opponents. Suphisara still figures to hit a ceiling if she ever starts marching up the ranks for a title shot, but she has been rounding out her game nicely in the meantime. Her submission win over Elise Reed in 2023 was a result that would have seemed quite unlikely upon her UFC debut. Suphisara looks for her third straight win against Brasil, an interesting prospect in her own right whose long frame will make for an amusing size difference. Brasil has a solid grasp on her approach, leveraging her length with an impressive kicking game from range and clinching with opponents if they manage to get close, but her effectiveness does seem to be a bit tenuous. She faced an aggressive and physical Denise Gomes in her UFC debut, and the Parana Vale Tudo rep was able to reliably pressure and make Brasil uncomfortable before scoring a second-round knockout. Brasil did at least rebound well against Shauna Bannon in July. However, given that Suphisara was able to handle Gomes’ physicality in their 2022 matchup, it does seem like the Thai fighter should also effectively be able to play bully against Brasil when the two lock horns. Suphisara might not be dedicated enough to pressure to knock Brasil entirely off the rails, but this does look like a fight she can handle easily. The pick is Suphisara via decision.
