9. K-1 Premium 2006 Dynamite
Yoshihiro Akiyama locked horns with Japanese icon Kazushi Sakuraba in the K-1 Premium 2006 Dynamite headliner on New Year’s Eve, helping to bring a crowd of 51,930 to the Kyocera Dome Osaka in Osaka, Japan. Akiyama stopped Sakuraba on a first-round technical knockout, only have the result later changed to a no-contest when he was found to have applied an illegal substance to his body. The Akiyama-Sakuraba controversy aside, the event also served as a stage for the unexpected, as Genki Sudo announced his retirement at the age of 28 after he submitted Damacio Page with a triangle choke 3:05 into the first round of their clash. Elsewhere on the card, Hong Man Choi, Norifumi Yamamoto and Hideo Tokoro all had their hands raised.
