Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto vs. Demetrious Johnson
The Matchup: Once the terror of Japan, Yamamoto was one of MMA’s best-kept secrets stateside, at least to casual fans. An imposing blend of top-shelf wrestling, unabated aggression and explosive hands, Yamamoto was at one time considered the best 145 and 135 pounder in the sport. Fighting out of his weight class, he still overpowered bigger, world-class opponents.

There is always a question mark surrounding Japanese fighters debuting in the Octagon. Yamamoto will hold a significant wrestling and stand-up edge, and he has always started fast. He should be able to dictate the pace, unless he feels the first-time jitters that affected Takanori Gomi in his first UFC appearance. Kid has the right kind of opponent in Johnson, who will oblige him simple because he has everything to gain and nothing to lose.
The Pick: Expect Yamamoto to unleash an opening-round attack en route to a one-sided beating that continues into the second, where he wins via technical knockout.
