Matt Brown (11-10, 4-4 UFC) vs. John Howard (14-6, 4-2 UFC)
The Matchup: Brown is as entertaining and talented an 11-10 fighter as you will see in the game, with a penchant for memorable battles. Howard is the more physically gifted and is exceptionally tough. Outmatched, his brave stand in a one-sided decision loss to Thiago Alves was equal parts inspiring and grim.
This is Howard’s fight to lose, provided he does two things: establish the threat of the takedown to keep Brown from feeling overly confident on the feet and avoid a senseless standup brawl. Brown can be frustrated by opponents that seize upon takedowns, and Howard should go that route. Stepping forward and slugging with Brown, while tempting, gives “The Immortal” his best chance to win this fight. The guy only seems to get stronger when opponents trade with him, but on the floor, Howard is the superior fighter and should take it there as often as possible.
The Pick: Howard by second-round submission or TKO stoppage.
