Preview: UFC Fight Night 222 ‘Pavlovich vs. Blaydes’
Lucindo vs. Walker
Women’s Flyweights
Iasmin Lucindo (13-5, 0-1 UFC) vs. Brogan Walker (7-3, 0-1 UFC)ODDS: Lucindo (-330), Walker (+275)
The youngest fighter on the UFC roster at the time of her UFC debut in 2022, Brazil’s Lucindo impressed even in a loss. Fellow UFC newcomer Yazmin Jauregui came in with much more hype, but Lucindo hung with her every step of the way. Lucindo separated herself as a mauling wrestler on the regional scene, but her fight against Jauregui was notable for how much early success the Brazilian was able to find with some powerful counters. Already a six-year vet after starting her pro career as a teenager, Lucindo looks to be a blue-chip prospect as she attempts to find the wins necessary to stick on the UFC roster. Initially slated for a strawweight bout here, Lucindo moves back up to 125 pounds for the time being to take on late replacement Brogan Walker, who once again finds herself on prospect-testing duty.
A finalist on Season 30 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Walker put together a solid pre-UFC record on the back of a well-rounded game, most notably turning back Miranda Maverick under the Invicta Fighting Championships banner back in 2018. However, Walker can still get stifled by a better wrestler, which was made clear in a flat performance against Juliana Miller in “The Ultimate Fighter 30” final. Walker never really got out of the gates against Miller’s relentless wrestling and grappling attack. Walker would still likely be the best win on Lucindo’s record, so there is a bit of hesitation that she can get over the hump, especially up at 125 pounds. With that said, the bet is that Lucindo can bring enough horsepower to the table to hit some hard strikes and find success with her wrestling. The pick is Lucindo via decision.
