Sherdog’s Top 10: Regional Fight Cards of All-Time
No. 8
8. Brazilian Vale Tudo Fighting 6
Nov. 1, 1996 | Sao Paulo, Brazil
Back in 1996, the Ultimate Fighting Championship was still far away from becoming the combat sports powerhouse with which we have become familiar. Vale tudo events were commonplace in Brazil and served as staging grounds for some of the country’s greatest warriors. BVF 6 was one of them.
It featured a total of 24 fights and centered on an all-day tournament. It was a violent marathon, to say the least. Such Brazilian luminaries as Jose Landi-Jons, Wander Braga and Jorge Patino all competed, along with MMA rookie and future all-time great Wanderlei Silva. “The Axe Murderer” made his professional debut, knocking out Dilson Filho in 3:35.
