Darren Elkins (17-3, 7-2 UFC) vs. Jeremy Stephens (22-9, 9-8 UFC)The Matchup: Like Elkins a few years back, a move from lightweight to featherweight has had a positive impact on Stephens’ career.

When Elkins finds himself under duress -- and he will if he chooses to engage in a firefight here -- he usually resorts to takedowns and ground-and-pound. His resilience paid off in wins over Hatsu Hioki and Diego Brandao. In both bouts, he was in serious danger in the opening frame before surviving to grind out decision victories over the final 10 minutes. If he is unable to ground Stephens consistently, this instantly becomes a more dangerous fight for “The Damage.” Despite his reputation as a wrestler-slash-grappler, Elkins has not always been the most efficient takedown artist: His rate of 39 percent, per FightMetric, is underwhelming. However, he is adept at staying busy with offense, which eventually pays off if the bout goes the distance.
Stephens is not likely to be bullied by Elkins, but he could leave himself vulnerable to level changes and takedowns by swinging and missing with haymakers. He must also be prepared to go the full 15 minutes because of Elkins’ resilience and durability.
The Pick: Stephens is capable of ending this with one blow, but Elkins’ ability to weather the storm and maintain pressure for three rounds carries him to a decision.
