Sherdog’s Top 10: Mismatches
No. 5
Pride Bushido 1
Oct. 5, 2003 | Saitama, Japan
Filipovic was well-established as one of the most feared knockout artists in the sport, a fan favorite thanks to his propensity for violent head-kick knockouts. He was also among the best fighters on the Pride Fighting Championships roster.
When the Japanese super organization created its Bushido series, it opted to place “Cro Cop” on the first card to give it some oomph. However, instead of pitting the former K-1 fighter against one of his contemporaries, Pride picked Rodriguez, aka “Dos Caras Jr.” Slaughter became inevitable.
A popular professional wrestler, Rodriguez was 3-2 entering the match, and everyone knew he could not compete with the Croatian killing machine. “Dos Caras Jr.” was seeing stars just 46 seconds into the first round, the latest victim of a Filipovic head kick.
