Sherdog’s Top 10: Ronda Rousey Achievements
No. 4
4. Out on a Limb
Miesha Tate has been Rousey’s chief rival but has yet to sniff victory in two fights against her. In their first meeting on March 3, 2012, Rousey claimed the Strikeforce women’s championship in just her fifth professional bout; and things got ugly at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Rousey latched onto a limb and Tate refused to tap, even as her arm bent backward at the elbow. “Cupcake” eventually escaped the lock, only to fall into it again moments later. She initially resisted the urge to submit, but when her arm was torqued at a gruesome angle, Tate finally conceded defeat 4:27 into round one. The fight provided an entertaining conclusion to weeks of unfriendly trash talk and touched off Rousey’s reign atop the 135-pound division.
