Belfort made quick work of the 2000 Olympic silver medalist, as he disposed of Lindland with punches 37 seconds into the first round of their pairing at the Honda Center. Belfort sat down Lindland with a counter overhand left, pancaked him to the mat and unleashed a series of crushing right hands until he lay supine and stiff near the ropes, his left leg twitching involuntarily. The Team Quest co-founder remained unconscious for several tense moments and then attempted to grapple with the medical personnel who had entered the ring to treat him. Lindland was fitted with a neck brace as a precautionary measure but refused to be carried out on a stretcher and eventually rose to his feet with the aid of others. It was part of a five-fight winning streak that led Belfort back to the UFC and saw him challenge Anderson Silva for the middleweight crown.
