Upper-crust bantamweights will share the stage when Rob Font takes on Cody Garbrandt in the UFC Fight Night 188 main event on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The result figures to provide further clarity in the line that has formed behind reigning champion Aljamain Sterling and former titleholder Petr Yan.

Font enters the cage on the strength of a three-fight winning streak. The New England Cartel representative last appeared at UFC Fight Night 183, where he cut down onetime World Series of Fighting champion Marlon Moraes with an elbow strike and follow-up punches in the first round of their Dec. 19 pairing. Garbrandt, meanwhile, has lost three times in his past four appearances. The Team Alpha Male standout last competed at UFC 250 on June 6, when he punched out Raphael Assuncao with one second left in the second round and closed the book on a three-fight losing streak.

Ahead of the pivotal Font-Gabrandt showdown, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

33: Years of age for Font, who was born on June 25, 1987 in Leominster, Massachusetts. “Summer School,” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “RoboCop,” “La Bamba” and “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace” were the Top 5 movies at the domestic box office at the time.

4: Font wins by submission, accounting for 22% of his career total (18). His methods of choice: two guillotine chokes, one rear-naked choke and one brabo choke. Font owns eight other wins by knockout or technical knockout and six more by decision.

111: Significant strikes landed by Font in a unanimous decision over current Bellator MMA champion Sergio Pettis at UFC on Fox 31 in 2018. It remains the only fight in which Font has cracked the century mark in significant strikes.

103: Combined victories between the four men who have defeated Font: Assuncao, Pedro Munhoz, John Lineker and Desmond Green. They own a cumulative record of 103-30 for a .774 winning percentage.

3,458: Days spent by Font as a professional mixed martial artist. He made his debut under the Premier Fighting Championship banner on Dec. 3, 2011, as he submitted Matt Tuthill with a rear-naked choke 2:32 into their encounter. Font won 10 of his first 11 fights and captured the CES MMA featherweight crown before signing with the UFC in 2014.

29: Years of age for Garbrandt, who was born on July 7, 1991 in Uhrichsville, Ohio—a small, 2.82-square-mile town of less than 5,500 people on the eastern side of The Buckeye State.

9: Knockdowns landed by Garbrandt as an Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight, tying him with archnemesis T.J. Dillashaw for first on the promotion’s all-time list at 135 pounds.

Cruz connected on 88 such strikes while absorbing only 68 of them in return. However, Garbrandt completed the only takedown of the fight and knocked down “The Dominator” twice.

200,000: Dollars in post-fight bonuses banked by Garbrandt across his 10 appearances in the UFC. He has been awarded “Performance of the Night” twice and “Fight of the Night” on two other occasions. Advertisement
