Drew Dober Promises Exciting Fight Against Marco Polo Reyes at UFC Minneapolis
Drew
Dober will return to the Octagon on Saturday at
UFC Minneapolis where he is taking on Marco Polo
Reyes. However, the lightweight did not expect to return this
soon after his loss to Beneil
Dariush back in March.
Now that he does have another fight, Dober is excited to showcase his skills once again. Especially against a striker in Polo Reyes as he knows it will be an exciting fight for the fans.
"I have the advantage in the striking. It is just that comfort
level. I'm very comfortable with what Polo Reyes will bring into
the cage," Dober said to Sherdog.com. "It allows me to perform at
my best and allows the fight to be as exciting as possible."
For the Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran, he believes this will be primarily a striking fight where the two will meet in the middle and exchange punches. That being said, Dober doesn't want to win a Fight of the Night bonus because that means he was hit a lot, too. Rather, he wants and expects an early finish that will award him a Performance of the Night bonus.
"I'm sure [my opponent] is making the adjustment to protect his chin and put him in the best position to win," he explained. "So, in my mind, I'm fighting the best Polo Reyes there is on Saturday. I'm not counting on his chin being weak, just trying to touch it as often as I can."
Dober is expecting the best Polo Reyes, the 30-year-old says he is better everywhere than the Mexican. Even though he is primarily a striker, Dober is not counting out him shooting for a takedown and getting this fight to the ground.
"I can put the fight anywhere I want to go and am conformable," he said. "Obviously striking is where I'm most comfortable, but push comes to shove, I'm a mixed martial artist. I feel comfortable everywhere."
In the end, Dober is confident he gets back on track against Polo Reyes and believes a win here gets him back into the conversation of fighting ranked opponents. His goal is to be ranked by the end of the year and eventually hold the title, and for the American, he understands just how important it is to get back into the win column and start a winning streak on Saturday.
"I mean, every fight is super important to win. It is always great to get a win, but it is equally important to make them entertaining. Win or lose, as long as I am an entertaining athlete, and entertaining fans, that is why I got into this sport," said Dober. "A win here is just one step up that ladder. Just another win and another move up. A win over Polo Reyes is great, but I want a finish and that will do more. Just move me up the ladder into fighting ranked guys."

Although Polo Reyes is coming off of a knockout loss, Dober knows
he still has a durable chin. He believes the 34-year-old has made
the adjustments necessary to protect his chin and making him the
best he has ever been.
