6 Fights Signed for UFC 110
Brian Knapp Dec 15, 2009
One-time lightweight title challenger Joe Stevenson
will meet George
Sotiropoulos in a featured matchup at UFC 110 on Feb. 21 at the
Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. Half a dozen bouts are now
official for the promotion’s debut Down Under.
Stevenson will carry a two-fight winning streak into the match. A veteran of 41 bouts, the 27-year-old last appeared in October, when he struck Spencer Fisher into submission with a series of elbows from the top position. Stevenson, now training at Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts in Albuquerque, N.M., holds other notable victories against “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5 winner Nate Diaz, American Top Team’s Gleison Tibau and former two-division Deep champion Dokonjonosuke Mishima. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, he has delivered nearly half (15) of his 31 career wins by submission.
The 32-year-old Sotiropoulos, an emerging threat at 155 pounds, has
finished all four of his opponents inside the Octagon. A
semi-finalist on Season 6 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” he submitted
Jason
Dent with a second-round armbar at UFC 106 last month.
Sotiropoulos has not tasted defeat since being disqualified for an
illegal groin strike against Shinya Aoki
more than three years ago.
A heavyweight showdown pairing Brazilian legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira against the undefeated Cain Velasquez will headline UFC 110, along with a middleweight battle between Wanderlei Silva and Michael Bisping. In addition, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 8 winner Ryan Bader will lock horns with Keith Jardine in a 205-pound tilt, and 2006 Pride open weight grand prix winner Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic will square off with Ben Rothwell at heavyweight.
