Bellator 160 Gets Flyweight Bout Between Nievera and Ovchynnikova

By Mike Sloan Aug 2, 2016

Bellator MMA officials revealed on Tuesday afternoon that a flyweight matchup between Lena Ovchynnikova and Jaimelene Nievera had been tacked on to Bellator 160. The event goes down Aug. 26 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., and will be headlined by a lightweight battle between Benson Henderson and Patricio Freire.

Ukraine’s Ovchynnikova will be looking to nab her first Bellator win the next time she climbs into the cage for battle. She’s flip-flopped wins and losses during the past two years and she came up short in her promotional debut at Bellator 150, losing to Rebecca Ruth via decision. But “Hunter” bounced back with a solid win over Mara Romero Borella in May.

Nievera, meanwhile, has been tearing up the competition as of late, having won three in a row, all via submission or TKO. The Californian last fought in May at Bellator 154 where she took out Stephanie Frausto in the third courtesy of a tempest of punches and elbows.

Bellator 160 will also feature a showdown between A.J. McKee and Henry Corrales while Saad Awad will clash with Derek Anderson to round out the main card.

Bellator 160 will be aired live on Spike beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT
