Bellator Announces Joint Card with Glory; Tito Ortiz to Challenge Liam McGeary on Sept. 19
Bellator MMA today announced that its Sept. 19 card will be a blockbuster co-promotion with kickboxing organization Glory.
Bellator MMA “Dynamite” will take place at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., and will be anchored by a light heavyweight championship bout between undefeated titleholder Liam McGeary and challenger Tito Ortiz. Bellator President Scott Coker also revealed that the organization will host a four-man, one-night light heavyweight tournament to potentially decide a number-one contender for the title.
The four men slated to compete in the old school-style bracket are Phil Davis, Muhammed Lawal, Emanuel Newton and Linton Vassell. The exact order of matches and matchups were not revealed, but Coker said that two reserve bouts will take place as well in case of injury. Each bout in the four-man tourney will be contested in two five-minute rounds in the opening round, with the final round being a standard three five-minute round affair. Bellator will include a special fourth judge for the tournament who will declare a winner in the event of a draw.
Glory will contribute three kickboxing matches to be battled in a separate ring, which will be adjacent to the Bellator cage. Joe Schilling will square off against Paul Daley in one of the matches, with the other two duels to be announced shortly.
