Donald Cerrone returns to the Octagon this weekend to take on the fast-rising Alexander Hernandez in a matchup that promises excitement. “Cowboy” claims that’s all he ever wanted.

In Cerrone’s last fight against Mike Perry at UFC Fight Night 139 in November, the popular veteran turned back the clock, putting on a clinical performance against “Platinum” on the way to a first-round armbar submission. It was Cerrone’s 21st Octagon win and 15th finish -- both Ultimate Fighting Championship records.

In the lead up to this weekend, Cerrone was asked about the legacy he wanted to leave as a fighter. The 35-year-old said he wants fans to remember him as a fighter who gave everything and someone you’d drop everything to go and watch.

“My legacy, that’s what I want it to be, man,” Cerrone said. “I want to be like ‘f--k, Cowboy’s fighting, we’ve got to f--king watch this.’ If I’m on Fight Pass, ‘We’ve got to pull over, stop the bus, we’ve got to download the app and watch this,’ if it’s pay-per-view, ‘We’ve got to find a bar,’ right?

“I don’t care if people watch the rest of the card or just me,” Cerrone added. “Just get in there. Cowboy’s fighting, he’s going to give it everything he’s got. To me, that’s the dying name I want. I want to be the guy that everybody loved to watch fight because, no matter who, no matter the beef, I got up, I fought, and I had integrity and respect afterwards. To me, that’s what’s important.” UFC on ESPN+ 1, also known as UFC Fight Night 143, is headlined by a flyweight title fight between flyweight champ Henry Cejudo and bantamweight kingpin T.J. Dillashaw on January 19, 2019 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Co-headlining the inaugural ESPN+ event will be a heavyweight slugfest between Greg Hardy and Allen Crowder. Advertisement
