Five-Division Boxing Champ Amanda Serrano Set for Combate Americas Debut on April 13
Five-division boxing world champion Amanda
Serrano will make her mixed martial arts debut in the
co-headliner of Combate Americas’ April 13 event against Mexico
City native Erendira
Ordonez.
Serrano’s first MMA foray will be contested at 125 pounds. The promotion announced the event on Wednesday. “Combate Estrellas 1” takes place at Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles and will see John Castaneda face Marc Gomez in the evening’s main event.
The “Estrellas” theme is the first of a two-part series designed to
feature some of Combate Americas top stars. The date and venue for
the second event was not revealed.
“As the creative force behind MMA, which is in its 25th year of existence, I am poised for Combate Americas to take our great sport into the next era with our ‘estrellas’ from the U.S., Mexico, Spain and around Latin America,” Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren said in a release.
A native of Puerto, the 29-year-old reigning WBO bantamweight champion owns a 34-1-1 record with 26 knockout victories in the Sweet Science. When Serrano signed with Combate Americas in January, it was revealed that she would continue to compete in professional boxing in hopes of becoming the first fighter to simultaneously hold titles in both sports.
Serrano was convinced to transition to MMA by retired former UFC champion Miesha Tate, who serves as her co-manager.
