Guillard-Roller Tapped for UFC 132 on July 2

The UFC has yet to formally announce UFC 132, but
the promotion nonetheless added the first matchup to the card on
Monday. According to a post on UFC.com, lightweights Melvin
Guillard and Shane
Roller have verbally agreed to meet at the event, which is
expected to take place July 2 in Las Vegas.
“Both of these guys are coming off of ‘Knockout of the Night’ winning performances,” UFC President Dana White stated.
Indeed, the 27-year-old Guillard disposed of highly regarded
prospect Evan Dunham
with first-round knee strikes to earn the bonus at UFC
“Fight for the Troops 2” on Jan. 22. The Greg Jackson-trained
“Young Assassin” has been on a hot streak since February 2010, when
he took a unanimous decision over Ronys
Torres at UFC
109. Guillard inserted himself into the lightweight contenders’
picture with his subsequent wins over Dunham, Jeremy
Stephens and Waylon
Lowe.
Roller, meanwhile, secured his “Knockout of the Night” check in his March 3 UFC debut, coming from behind to plaster Thiago Tavares with punches in the second round of their UFC Live 3 prelim. Prior to entering the UFC, the former Oklahoma State University wrestling standout notched an impressive 6-2 mark under the World Extreme Cagefighting banner. Roller’s only WEC losses came against former champs Benson Henderson and Anthony Pettis, while the 31-year-old took out fighters such as Jamie Varner and Anthony Njokuani.
