James DeGale, Chris Eubank Jr. Make Weight for 168-Pound Clash on Showtime

By Mike Sloan Feb 22, 2019
Former world champion James DeGale and Chris Eubank Jr. both made weight on Friday, clearing the final hurdle toward their super middleweight encounter. The two will collide in the main event at The O2 in London, England, and Showtime will televise the action in the U.S.

DeGale (25-2-1, 15 KOs) was stripped of his IBF super middleweight crown last July for not fighting "interim" champ Jose Uzcategui. The London native is on a quest to be crowned world champ again and "Chunky" was anything but his nickname on the scales. DeGale came in officially at 166 pounds.

Eubank Jr. (27-2, 21 KOs) has won nine of his last 10 bouts, eight of which came via stoppage. The fellow Brit came up short in his only world title challenge to date but bounced back with a win over JJ McDonagh last September. Eubank Jr., the son of the great Chris Eubank, clocked in at 167 pounds, setting the stage for what should be a solid matchup.

The co-feature will see former longtime IBF featherweight king Lee Selby (26-2, 9 KOs) try to get back on the winning track when he fights Omar Douglas in a lightweight affair. Selby, who lost his title Josh Warrington last May, came in at 134.7 pounds. Douglas (19-2, 13 KOs), a winner of two straight, checked in at 132 pounds.

The action will be televised live on Showtime beginning at 3:45 p.m. ET (12:45 p.m. PT).
