Gordon and Sayles confirmed the bout on social media following an initial report from MMAjunkie.com . UFC San Diego takes place at Pechanga Arena on May 16 and is headlined by a lightweight tilt pitting Dustin Poirier against Dan Hooker. The card is expected to stream on ESPN+.
Gordon enters the matchup having lost three of his last four Octagon appearances. Most recently, the 31-year-old New York native suffered a first-round knockout loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 164 on Nov. 16. The former Cage Fury Fighting Championships titlist owns a 15-4 career record that includes eight triumphs inside the distance.
Sayles meanwhile, has lost two of his first three UFC bouts after earning a contract thanks to a first-round stoppage of Yazan Hajeh on Season 2 of Dana White’s Contender Series. In his last outing, the Alliance MMA representative fell victim to a Bryce Mitchell twister at UFC on ESPN 7.
