Joseph Benavidez and Tim Elliott are set to square off in a 125-pound matchup at UFC 172 in Baltimore.
UFC officials Monday announced the booking via Twitter, also confirming a women’s bantamweight tilt between unbeaten prospects Bethe Correia and Jessamyn Duke. UFC 172 goes down April 25 at Baltimore Arena and will be headlined by a UFC light heavyweight title bout between reigning champ Jon Jones and surging contender Glover Teixeira.
Benavidez, 29, will look to get back on track following the first knockout loss of his 23-fight career. The Team Alpha Male fighter was punched out by flyweight ace Demetrious Johnson in their December rematch, snapping a three-fight winning streak which saw Benavidez top Ian McCall, Jussier da Silva and Darren Uyenoyama.
Elliott is also coming off a loss, having been outpointed by Ali Bagautinov at UFC 167 in November. The 27-year-old Kansas native has posted a 2-2 record in four UFC bouts, all of which have gone the distance.
Correia scored a major victory for her Octagon debut in December when she earned a split decision over the more experienced Julie Kedzie. Duke, a member of Ronda Rousey’s squad on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 18, won a unanimous nod against Peggy Morgan at November’s “TUF 18” Finale.
