Matt Brown-Thiago Alves, Joe Lauzon-Michael Johnson Official for UFC on Fox Sports 1
Two previously reported fights are now official for the UFC’s debut on Fox Sports 1, as the UFC today confirmed that Matt Brown will face Thiago Alves and Joe Lauzon will battle Michael Johnson at the Aug. 17 event.
The show takes place at TD Garden in Boston and marks the Las Vegas-based promotion’s first trip to Beantown in three years.

Alves, meanwhile, has not competed since March of last year, when he was finished by Martin Kampmann in the third round of their UFC on FX 2 encounter. Previously regarded as one of the welterweight division’s finest talents, “Pitbull” has lost four of his last six fights dating back to his failed 2009 title shot against Georges St. Pierre.
Lauzon returns to the cage for the first time since his violent UFC 155 showdown with Jim Miller, during which the Massachusetts native suffered a ghastly facial laceration. Prior to that Dec. 29 defeat, “J-Lau” had won three of his last four, besting Jamie Varner, Melvin Guillard and Curt Warburton while falling to Anthony Pettis.
Johnson enters the bout having lost back-to-back fights for the first time since 2009. “The Menace” saw a three-fight winning streak snapped this past December, when he was decisively outpointed by Myles Jury at UFC 155. The lightweight followed that result with another setback, as he was choked out by Reza Madadi last month at UFC on Fuel TV 9.
