Report: Matt Brown-Thiago Alves Expected for UFC on Fox Sports 1 in Boston
Surging welterweight Matt Brown will look for his sixth consecutive win inside the Octagon when he faces former No. 1 contender Thiago Alves at UFC on Fox Sports 1.
MMAFighting.com was first to report that both fighters have agreed to the matchup, and multiple outlets have since confirmed the pairing. UFC on Fox Sports 1 takes place at TD Garden in Boston on Aug. 17, the same day that Fox’s Speed Channel converts into Fox Sports 1. The promotion has not formally announced any bouts for the card.
After going 4-0 in 2012, Brown has continued his hot streak into the current calendar year, scoring a second-round technical knockout of Jordan Mein at UFC on Fox 7. “The Immortal” also owns triumphs over Mike Swick, Luis Ramos, Stephen Thompson and Chris Cope during his recent tear, finishing all but Thompson inside of three rounds.
Alves, who made his promotional debut in October 2005, challenged reigning 170-pound king Georges St. Pierre at UFC 100, falling via unanimous decision. “Pitbull” has struggled since then, losing three of his last five Octagon appearances. He was submitted by Martin Kampmann at UFC on FX 2 in his last outing more than a year ago. The American Top Team product has been sidelined by multiple injuries since that defeat.
