Just four days after his win at UFC Fight Night 32, Ryan LaFlare has been booked for his next Octagon appearance.
LaFlare will replace the injured Kelvin Gastelum against Court McGee at UFC on Fox 9, promotion officials recently announced. The event takes place Dec.14 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif., and is headlined by a flyweight title rematch between Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez.
LaFlare, 30, has yet to stumble as a pro, rattling off nine consecutive victories to begin his MMA career. The New Yorker joined the UFC this past April after dominating in New Jersey’s Ring of Combat organization and made a successful Octagon debut by outpointing Ben Alloway at UFC on Fuel TV 9. LaFlare then returned to action this past Saturday, scoring a unanimous decision win over Santiago Ponzinibbio in Goiania, Brazil.
McGee, 28, suffered back-to-back defeats in 2012 but has since rebounded from the stretch, notching wins over Josh Neer in February and Robert Whittaker in August. “The Crusher” introduced himself to UFC fans by winning “The Ultimate Fighter 11” and followed that triumph with victories over Ryan Jensen and Dongi Yang before hitting his two-fight skid.
