The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced early Thursday afternoon the addition of an intriguing welterweight showdown to the UFC 195 bill. The promotion revealed that Stephen Thompson and Neil Magny, two combatants hovering near the bottom half of 170-pound top 10, will square off in Las Vegas.

Magny has been on fire the past 18 months, having won eight of his last nine bouts with half of those wins coming via either knockout or submission. The Illinois-based fighter last went to battle at UFC Fight Night “Holloway vs. Oliveira in August, when he edged Erick Silva via split decision.

Thompson has been equally as impressive, with the only loss of his career coming at the hands of Matt Brown at UFC 145 more than three years ago. “Wonderboy” has won five consecutive fights, with his last victory coming in July at “The Ultimate Fighter 21” finale, where he dispatched Jake Ellenberger with a highlight-reel spinning hook kick to the head in the opening round.

UFC 195 takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and is headlined by the welterweight championship between titleholder Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit. Also set to appear on the marquee is Lorenz Larkin taking on fellow welterweight Albert Tumenov.

Tumenov has won four straight in the Octagon, most recently dispatching Alan Jouban via head kick and follow-up punches in the opening stanza at UFC 192. Larkin, meanwhile, has scored consecutive technical knockout triumphs over Santiago Ponzinibbio and John Howard since dropping to welterweight.
