UFC Fight Night 26 Bonuses Update: McDonald Earns $100K; Sonnen, 3 More Pocket $50K
Five men walked away from the UFC’s Fox Sports 1 debut a bit richer, as Chael Sonnen, Michael McDonald, Brad Pickett, Travis Browne and Matt Brown were all awarded post-fight bonuses for their efforts at UFC Fight Night 26.
Sonnen and McDonald each picked up “Submission of the Night” honors, while Browne and Brown were both awarded “Knockout of the Night.” Meanwhile, McDonald shared “Fight of the Night” with Pickett following their exciting bantamweight scrap on Saturday night. All fighters were awarded $50,000 except McDonald, who nabbed $100,000 with his dual bonuses.
UFC Fight Night 26 took place at TD Garden in Boston and saw Sonnen submit Mauricio Rua in the evening’s main event. After taking his opponent to the mat, Sonnen caught “Shogun” with a tight guillotine choke to finish the fight with just 13 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Just prior, Browne (Pictured, file photo) handed Alistair Overeem his second consecutive knockout loss, weathering an early storm from “The Demolition Man” before dropping him with a front kick to the face.
McDonald rebounded from his failed interim title bid to demolish Pickett, dropping the Brit with a vicious flurry early in the fight and then submitting him with a triangle choke late in the second stanza. Later in the evening, Matt Brown wasted no time in dispatching veteran Mike Pyle, sending “Quicksand” to the canvas before turning out his lights with violent ground-and-pound only 29 seconds into their welterweight affair.
