Al Iaquinta came away from UFC on Fox 31 with a 2-0 record against Kevin Lee and a $50,000 bonus check for his efforts.
Iaquinta received “Performance of the Night” honors for his five-round decision win against Lee in Saturday’s headliner at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. The Serra-Longo Fight Team member battered Lee on the feet and after surviving a couple back takes by the “Motown Phenom,” was clearly the stronger fighter down the stretch in the championship rounds to earn the nod from the cageside judges.
Elsewhere, Charles Oliveira garnered the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his first-round submission of Jim Miller in featured lightweight clash. “Do Bronx” secured a body-lock takedown at the outset, moved to his foe’s back and locked in a rear-naked choke at the 1:15 mark of round one. Oliveira’s 12 submission victories are a UFC record.
Finally, Joaquim Silva and Jared Gordon earned “Fight of the Night” and $50,000 apiece for their spirited preliminary clash at 155 pounds. While Gordon had Silva reeling early, the Brazilian had the last laugh. In the third round, Silva rocked Gordon with a right hand and polished off his reeling foe with punches against the fence at the 2:39 mark of the period.
