Valentina Shevchenko vs. Katlyn Chookagian Set for February
Valentina
Shevchenko has her third flyweight title defense set as she
will be taking on Katlyn
Chookagian on Feb. 8.
ESPN was first to report the news. The card will take place in
Houston and will likely be named UFC 247 (barring if the rumored
Jan. 18 pay-per-view happens).
Shevchenko is coming off of a decision win over Liz Carmouche in August to defend her belt for the second time. In her first title defense, she beat Jessica Eye with a highlight reel headkick knockout at UFC 238. To win the title, she dominated Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231 to win the vacant Ultimate Fighting Championship women's flyweight title.
She is currently 4-0 at 125-pounds and is ranked as the top flyweight in the world in Sherdog’s divisional rankings and ranked second in the women’s pound-for-pound list.
Chookagian, meanwhile, is on a two-fight winning streak where she beat Jennifer Maia at UFC 244 by decision. Before that, she edged out another decision win over Joanne Calderwood at UFC 238. The 30-year-old was in a No. 1 contender bout at UFC 231 but lost by split-decision to Eye. This will be her first time fighting for the title.
There is no word on where this fight will be placed on the card.
