Christos Giagos Used to Being the Bad Guy

Christos Giagos might hear most of the crowd cheering for his opponent in his upcoming assignment, but “The Spartan” doesn’t mind it.

Giagos (20-10, 6-6 UFC) is scheduled to take part in an intriguing 155-pound clash with Daniel Zellhuber at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 227 event, which will go down on Sept. 16. The Black House representative is coming off a spectacular first-round knockout victory over Ricky Glenn in his latest assignment and hopes to replicate the success in his next bout. Ahead of the match, Giagos acknowledged Zellhuber’s talent but mentioned his opponent was still relatively inexperienced compared to “The Spartan,” whose own maturity and experience might serve as key advantages in the upcoming fight. Giagos is accustomed to and enjoys being the "opponent" in foreign lands, so to speak. While the forthcoming Fight Night will go down at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, the card has been built to celebrate the Mexican Independence Day, and the place is expected to be full of Mexican supporters.

“This is something that I'm used to. I've fought all over the country. I've fought in Brazil four times against Brazilians. I fought in Russia against a Russian. I fought in Sweden against a Danish-native guy. I'm ‘The Spartan.’ I go to people's land, I take over. I'm OK with being the guy that they're going against. It's something that I'm very familiar with, and I like it. It gives me a little extra energy, you know what I mean? I like shutting everybody up and making a bad day. I like being the underdog. I like being the guy people go against, so I can kind of shut everybody up a little bit.”
