Combate Americas Announces Fight Card for Peru Debut
Combate
Americas announced today the complete fight card for their
Combate
Peru event. The Hispanic mixed martial arts promotion will make
both its Peruvian and South American debuts on Friday, May 31 in
Lima's Coliseo Manuel Bonilla.
Closing out the historic show in the main event position will be Mexico City's Daniel Zellhuber (6-0) taking on fellow undefeated fighter Gian Franco Cortez (4-0). Only 19, "Golden Boy" was initially tasked to battle the 11-1 Rolando Bedoya. Likely to receive a hometown welcome, Lima's Cortez, 22, is riding high after a first-round TKO over Steven Munoz on March 23.
In the co-main event slot Combate has set a 150-pound catchweight
collision between
Marlon Gonzales and Pablo
Villaseca. Gonzales calls Lima home while Villaseca hails from
Santiago, Chile.
Adding to the action is a bantamweight bout between David Martinez and William Sanchez. Martinez, representing Mexico City, is 3-0, while Sanchez, another Lima native, will make his debut.
Martinez was initially slated to clash with a different Lima-local in Kevin "El Frio" Moreyra (4-2), but the 2017 Copa Combate tournament fighter determined that he could not make the bantamweight limit. Instead, he will jump ten pounds and move to the preliminary card to face featherweight Bruno Pereira, a Lima resident by way of Amapa, Brazil.
Opening the show for Combate Peru will be a handful more of Lima's surging MMA prospects. In a bantamweight matchup, Alexander Valenzuela will test his 12-6-1 record against the 11-4 Vicente Vargas. The 2-0 Jose Alberto Ochoa will defend Lima's honor against the equally successful Omar Torres who fights out of Arequipa, a city located at the southern end of Peru.
Combate Peru airs live in English on DAZN and in Spanish on Univision and UDN.
