Jamal James to Face ‘Jo Jo’ Dan in PBC on FS1 Card on July 15
Premier Boxing Champions put the proverbial cherry on the icing of
its massive day of boxing on July 15, which will see televised
action on both Fox and FS1. The company revealed Thursday afternoon
that Jamal James will take on Ionut “Jo Jo” Dan in the featured
fight of a PBC on FS1 card, capping off what should be an excellent
day of pugilism at NYCB Live on Long Island, N.Y., on July 15.
James (20-1, 9 KOs) is looking to rebound from his first career loss, which he suffered last August when he dropped a unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugas. The welterweight is eager to climb back into the ring and begin a new winning streak.
“I'm excited to be able to get back in the ring,” said James. “I'm
grateful to have the team that I have so that I could fight on this
great card in Long Island on FS1 and FOX Deportes. I've been
training hard and I'm hungry and anxious to get back in the ring
and show off my skills.”
Dan has gone 2-2 in his last four, though one of those losses came against then-IBF welterweight world champion Kell Brook. The Romanian-Canadian is coming off a fifth-round TKO win over Jesus Gurrola in March and wants to use James as a springboard to land another shot at a world title.
“I am back at welterweight for my fight on July 15 and I plan on putting on a good performance so that I can get back in the mix for a world title shot,” said Dan (36-4, 19 KOs). “I am having a great training camp at the Grant Brothers' Gym in Montreal and I'll be in top shape on fight night. My team and I are thrilled to be part of this event that brings big-time boxing back to Long Island.”
Televised coverage on FS1 begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Brandon Figueroa (12-0, 8 KOs) will take on Eliezer Aquino (19-2-1, 13 KOs) in an eight-round bantamweight showdown.
The FS1 card will begin as soon as PBC’s main event of the evening concludes. That card, which will be broadcast live on Fox and Fox Deportes beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, will be anchored by the welterweight battle between Omar Figueroa and Robert Guerrero. Also slated for that roster is a light heavyweight duel between arcus Browne and Seanie Monaghan while Artur Szpilka will oppose fellow heavyweight Adam Kownacki.
