Miguel Cruz-Alex Martin Rematch Headlines PBC on FS1 Card on June 27
Premier Boxing Champions is set to return to the Sands Bethlehem
Events Center on June 27 and headlining the card is an intriguing
rematch between welterweight contenders Miguel Cruz and Alex
Martin. The bout will anchor the next PBC on FS1’s “Toe-To-Toe
Tuesdays” event.
Cruz (15-0, 11 KOs) was victorious when the two met back in January by using a more brawling, power-punching approach and it paid off. Cruz won via split decision and since the fight was one of the better battles of the first half of the year, it seemed inevitable that they’d collide again. Cruz is aiming to make sure his win the first time around was no fluke.
“I won the first fight between us and I'm here to prove that,” said
Cruz. “I will be victorious again and this time everyone will be
able to do it. I'm going to get the win in even more convincing
fashion. I'm looking forward to this fight and I'm not planning on
letting it go the distance.”
Martin (13-1, 5 KOs) thought he did enough by trying out-box his opponent, but he came up just short and lost for the first time as a pro. Martin is a man possessed in trying to exact revenge for the loss and though he has only half of the knockouts on his ledger as Crus does, he’s vowing to end things early.
“This fight will not go the distance,” said Martin. “It will end early. He is not as good as his record says. Everyone who has seen the first fight knows it was a bad decision. I think even he knows he lost. I will make a more emphatic statement this fight. I will do in this fight what I should have done last night.”
Televised coverage of the action will go live on FS! Beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Opening the broadcast will be a 147-pound battle between Jamal James (20-1, 9 KOs) and Samuel Figueroa (11-1, 4 KOs).
