Next Opponent Says Fallon Fox Negatively Impacts WMMA

Transgender mixed martial artist Fallon Fox might only be a few steps away from receiving a license to compete in California, but not everyone believes she should be able to fight women in the cage.

Allanna Jones, who is scheduled to face Fox in the next round of Florida-based promotion Championship Fighting Alliance’s women’s featherweight tournament next month, recently told TMZ that “it doesn’t matter what he [Fox] had changed … he was still a man.”

Jones also believes that Fox’s presence in the sport could stunt the growth of women’s MMA, which made significant progress last month when Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche became the first females to fight – and headline – at a UFC event.

“[WMMA] is just making a name for itself and this will have a negative impact on it,” Jones said. Despite her feelings, Jones also told TMZ that she is confident in her ability to defeat Fox. An Ionia, Mich., native, Jones captured a split decision over Kelsey De Santis at CFA 10 in Coral Gables, Fla., on March 2. On that same card, Fox earned a 39-second knockout of Ericka Newsome. The winner of the 145-pound bracket receives $20,000.

CFA co-founder Jorge De La Noval recently told SI.com that the organization’s April 20 event – which would include the Fox-Jones fight -- will be postponed until Fox’s licensing issues are resolved.
