PBC on CBS Weigh-in Result: Thurman, Porter Cleared to Fight
Finally, after several months of waiting and a delay thanks to an
injury, welterweight stars Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter are set to go toe-to-toe. The two will
meet for Thurman’s WBA title in the main event of a Premier
Boxing Champions on CBS card, which will come to fight fans
from the prestigious Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
At Friday’s weigh-ins, both main event combatants looked like cold-blooded killers on the scales, each coming in on point and ready to finally lock horns. Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs), has won two in a row since suffering the only loss of his pro career. He relinquished his IBF 147-pound title to Kell Brook almost two years ago but has since rebounded with big wins against Erick Bone and Adrien Broner. His quest to win another world title continues Saturday against Thurman and with all the hard work out the way, Porter is ready. “Showtime” had to strip down to his birthday suit when he approached the scale and after he did, he came in right at 147 pounds.
Thurman, meanwhile, has been regarded as one of the best – if not the best – young fighters in the sport. “One Time” hasn’t fought in almost a year, though, and had to pull out of his original date with Porter earlier this year thanks to an automobile accident. But Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) isn’t the champion by accident and claims there will be no ring rust when he looks to make his third defense of this crown. Thurman clocked in officially at 146 pounds, giving the ballyhooed showdown the green light.
CBS will televise the action starting at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
