Showtime Championship Boxing Weigh-in Results: Stevenson, Fonfara Set for Rematch

With most of the fightsports’ eyes fixed on UFC 212 Saturday, an intriguing battle that has flown under the radar is set for tomorrow night on Showtime. WBC 175-pound champion Adonis Stevenson is set to defend his title against Andrzej Fonfara at Bell Centre in Montreal in what is an intriguing rematch in their own right.

The action will be broadcast live on Showtime beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. and at Friday’s official weigh-ins, all four of the main card combatants came in right on the money, giving the event the green light.

Fonfara (29-4, 17 KOs), who was born in Poland but currently lives in Chicago, has nothing to lose going into the fight, even with it being in the champ’s hometown. Fonfara tore up Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and out-pointed Nathan Cleverly to rebound from his loss to Stevenson three years ago, but he was shockingly torched by Joe Smith Jr. in the first round last June. He has since taken out former world champion Chad Dawson, but he’s still a massive underdog. On the scale, Fonfara came in at 174.2 pounds.

Stevenson (28-1, 23 KOs) has been on a tear lately, having won 15 in a row – 13 by KO – and he already holds a win over Fonfara. Huge wins over Sakio Bika, Tavoris Cloud and Dawson have all taken place during his reign as titleholder and Stevenson says that when he beats Fonfara, he will take on the winner of Andre Ward – Sergey Kovalev II later this month. “Superman” came in officially at 173.6 pounds.

The opening bout of the telecast will see former light heavyweight world champ Jean Pascal (31-4-1, 18 KOs) take on surging contender and 2008 Olympian Eleider Alvarez (22-0, 11 KOs). Pascal tipped the scale at 174.6 pounds, as did Alvarez.

Showtime Championship Boxing Weigh-in Results:

Adonis Stevenson (173.6) vs. Andrzej Fonfara (174.2)
Jean Pascal (174.6) vs. Eleider Alvarez (174.6)
