CASE FOR: Cruz has a heck of a fight resume. He was the last World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight champion and the first Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight titleholder. He never lost the crown in the cage and has no unavenged career defeats. His win over Demetrious Johnson looks even more impressive in hindsight, and he is one of only two men to beat Joseph Benavidez. Cruz also developed a unique style of fighting that others have tried to emulate due to his success. CASE AGAINST: Unfortunately, injuries have derailed his career. It is very much in question whether he will be able to return with the same form he once had. Cruz was not a difference maker for the WEC or UFC despite his competitive excellence.
