UFC 116 “Lesnar vs. Carwin”
July 3, 2010 | Las Vegas
Lesnar had a relatively short career in MMA, but when he was the king of the heavyweights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the organization enjoyed some of its most prosperous times. He was polarizing, massive, powerful and vulnerable to strikes. The former NCAA national champion never fully learned to cope with being hit, and Carwin’s brutally heavy hands nearly ended their fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in the first round.
Carwin rocked Lesnar with a flurry and drove him to the ground, where the Colorado powerhouse unloaded with a volley of punches and elbows. Bleeding from an elbow-induced cut and not doing much to protect himself, Lesnar was dangerously close to being taken out inside the first five minutes. However, the World Wrestling Entertainment superstar survived the round and noticed that Carwin was completely gassed. Early in round two, Lesnar executed a perfect double-leg takedown, applied an arm-triangle choke and forced the tapout at 2:19. He would never win another fight.
