3 Reasons to Watch ONE on Prime Video 16

One Championship believes in diversifying its portfolio. Chatri Sityodtong’s ambitious Singapore-based organization on Friday will once again keep its eggs in several baskets with another multi-discipline fight card in Bangkok, Thailand, where ONE on Prime Video 16 sets up shop at the historic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. The 10-bout lineup features matches in mixed martial arts, kickboxing, submission grappling and muay thai, as it shines the spotlight on a number of talented and charismatic combat sports competitors. Fireworks are a virtual certainty.

Here are three reasons to watch ONE on Prime Video 16:

1. Double Trouble

A simultaneous two-discipline champion will be crowned in the main event, as muay thai titleholder Jonathan Haggerty takes on MMA titlist Fabricio Andrade for the vacant ONE bantamweight kickboxing belt. Haggerty, 26, owns a 21-4 record with 12 knockouts in kickboxing/muay thai and enters the match on the strength of a five-fight winning streak. The Orpington, England, native last appeared at ONE on Prime Video 9, where he punched out Nong-O Gaiyanghadao in the first round of their April 22 pairing and captured the company’s bantamweight muay thai championship. Andrade, meanwhile, holds a 20-3 mark with seven knockouts in kickboxing/muay thai but has not competed in either discipline since 2019. The 26-year-old Brazilian laid claim to the promotion’s vacant bantamweight MMA title on Feb. 25, when he forced a fourth-round corner stoppage against John Lineker at ONE on Prime Video 7.

2. Golden Ticket

ONE will welcome a new member into its growing pantheon of champions when Tye Ruotolo meets Magomed Abdulkadirov for the inaugural welterweight submission grappling title in the co-headliner. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Andre Galvao , Ruotolo and his twin brother have taken the submission grappling world by storm in recent years. The 20-year-old Hawaiian made his promotional debut at ONE 157 in May 2022 and proceeded to submit five-time Eddie Bravo Invitational champion Garry Tonon with a brabo choke in just 97 seconds. Wins over Marat Gafurov, Reinier de Ridder and Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev have followed. Abdulkadirov, 32, operates out of the Universal Fighters camp in Russia. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt has never before competed in One Championship and figures to enter the match as a significant underdog.

3. Prospect Mining

One Championship appears to have discovered a diamond in the rough with Turkish lightweight Halil Amir. Still undefeated at 9-0, the 29-year-old will put his perfect record on the line when he confronts Ahmed Mujtaba in a three-round MMA showcase at 170 pounds. Halil wrecked the highly regard Timofey Nastyukhin with punches in a dazzling September 2022 promotional debut, then followed it with a unanimous decision over Maurice Abevi at ONE on Prime Video 9 in April. On the other side of the equation, Mujtaba has pieced together a 4-3 record across his seven assignments under the One Championship banner. The American Kickboxing Academy export last fought at ONE on Prime Video 10, where he tapped to a heel hook from Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Sage Northcutt on May 5. Mujtaba, 30, has gone the distance only once in his 12-fight career.
