Ghosn marched to the cage with a purpose at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, not knowing the fate that awaited him. He did not last long against Lawler, who needed less than two minutes to get the job done. Ghosn succumbed to punches 89 seconds into Round 1. Just 20 years old at the time, Lawler ate a few kicks to the inside and outside of his lead leg before drawing the Huntington Beach, California, native into his trap. He lured Ghosn into a firefight, sent him crashing to the canvas with an overhand right and then separated him from his senses with a diving right hand before referee Nelson “Doc” Hamilton arrived on the scene to prevent additional carnage. Ghosn staggered to his feet, retreated to his stool and was examined by a cageside physician, a gnarly gash on his left eyebrow providing further evidence of his encounter with a future champion.
