Welterweights
NR | Mounir Lazzez (10-2, 1-1 UFC) vs. NR | Ange Loosa (8-2, 0-0 UFC)BETUS ODDS: Lazzez (-210), Loosa (+165)
This bout took a hit with the late withdrawal of Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, but this should still be enjoyable time between two promising welterweights. Lazzez has been an interesting prospect to track. Tunisia’s “Sniper” had some impressive regional film as a dynamic knockout artist but found his most success against relatively weak competition. Through two UFC bouts, it is unclear exactly where Lazzez stands in terms of what has translated to his level. His UFC debut was an impressive performance against Abdul Razak Alhassan. Lazzez proved he could weather some early adversity and then put on a complete performance to earn a clear decision win in the upset. However, Warlley Alves dispatched Lazzez in short order, quickly closing distance and getting the better of him in a grimy affair. Initially slated to face Zaleski dos Santos, Lazzez now takes on a Congolese-Swiss newcomer. Loosa did not win his fight on the 2021 edition of Dana White’s Contender Series, dropping a decision to contract winner Jack Della Maddalena, but “The Last Ninja” was one of the more impressive entrants of the season in defeat. Loosa performs behind a steady and consistent game that offers pressure and wrestling backed by plenty of physical power. Loosa’s wrestling is a concern from a Lazzez standpoint, but he does not appear to have the all-out aggression that Alves used to quickly put Lazzez on the defensive. As a result, the bet is that Lazzez can find enough early success while picking the incoming Loosa apart to settle into a groove and keep the fight standing more often than not. Loosa should eventually find his way into a more even fight, but the pick is that Lazzez can coast on his early momentum and take the decision.
