By The Numbers: Arjan Singh Bhullar

Arjan Singh Bhullar stands alone atop one of the sport’s highest peaks.

Bhullar laid claim to the undisputed One Championship heavyweight title when he wiped out Brandon Vera with punches in the second round of their “Dangal” main event on May 15 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. Vera succumbed to blows 4:27 into Round 2, his historic 1,982-day reign at an end. Bhullar now finds himself on a run of four straight victories, the last two of which have taken place under the auspices of the Singapore-based One Championship organization.

As Bhullar awaits word on his first heavyweight title defense, a look at some of the numbers he has compiled to this point:

35: Years of age for Bhullar, who was born on May 13, 1986 in Richmond, British Columbia.

2: National championships won by Bhullar as an amateur wrestler at Simon Fraser University, an NAIA school in Burnaby, British Columbia. A three-time All-American, he won back-to-back titles as a heavyweight in 2009 and 2010. Bhullar represented Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, then turned his attention to mixed martial arts.

7: Bhullar wins by decision, accounting for 64% of his career total (11). He owns four other wins by knockout or technical knockout. Bhullar’s list of victims: Vera, Chris Catala, Blake Nash and Adam Santos.

4: Promotions in which Bhullar has competed as a mixed martial artist. He has gone 4-0 in the Battlefield Fight League, 3-1 in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, 2-0 in One Championship and 2-0 in Hard Knocks Fighting Championship.

5: Rounds required for Bhullar to successfully defend the Battlefield Fight League heavyweight championship, as he took a unanimous decision from Ryan Pokryfky in the BFL 45 main event on Sept. 17, 2016.

269: Seconds needed for Bhullar to put away Catala with punches in the HKFC 51 headliner on Oct. 14, 2016. It remains the only first-round finish of his 13-fight career.

1,674: Days between stoppage victories for Bhullar. His second-round technical knockout of Vera marked the first time he had cut down an opponent since he felled Catala four years, seven months and one day earlier.

48: Significant strikes by which Bhullar was outlanded across his four appearances in the UFC. He connected on 121 such strikes while absorbing 169 in return. However, Bhullar executed at least one takedown in all four of his bouts. The UFC allowed his contract to expire in 2019.

1: Loss on the Bhullar resume. He submitted to an omoplata from Adam Wieczorek in the second round of their UFC on Fox 29 pairing on April 14, 2018. It was only the second successful omoplata submission in UFC history. Ben Saunders authored the first when he dismissed Chris Heatherly with the maneuver at UFC Fight Night 49 in August 2014.

44: Combined victories between the four men—Vera, Mauro Cerilli, Juan Adams and Marcelo Golm—Bhullar has beaten during his current four-fight winning streak. They own a cumulative record of 44-19 (.698).
