Friends turned enemies will do battle when Colby Covington meets former American Top Team stablemate Jorge Masvidal in the UFC 272 headliner on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where stakes are undeniably high in the Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight division.

Covington has rattled off eight wins across his past 10 appearances. The onetime NCAA All-American wrestler last fought at UFC 268, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Kamaru Usman and failed for a second time to dethrone the reigning welterweight champion. Masvidal, meanwhile, steps into the Octagon on the heels of back-to-back losses to Usman. He last competed on April 24, when he was on the receiving end of a brutal knockout from “The Nigerian Nightmare” in the UFC 261 main event.

As Covington and Masvidal inch closer to their emotionally charged grudge match, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

34: Years of age for Covington, who was born on Feb. 22, 1988 in Clovis, California.

4: Covington wins by submission, accounting for 25% of his career total (16). His methods of choice: two rear-naked chokes and two arm-triangle chokes. Covington owns four other wins by knockout or technical knockout and six more by decision.

61: Takedowns landed by Covington as a UFC welterweight, tying him with Johny Hendricks for second on the promotion’s all-time list at 170 pounds. Only Georges St. Pierre (87) has executed more.

48: Professional rounds completed by Covington as a mixed martial artist. He has gone the distance on nine different occasions and carries an 8-1 record in those bouts.

.850: Cumulative winning percentage between the two men—Usman and Warlley Alves—who have defeated Covington. They boast a combined record of 34-6.

37: Years of age for Masvidal, who was born in Miami on Nov. 12, 1984.

16: Masvidal victories by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 46% of his career total (35). His list of UFC victims: Nate Diaz, Ben Askren, Darren Till, Donald Cerrone, Jake Ellenberger and Cezar Ferreira. Masvidal holds two other victories by submission and 17 more by decision.

18: Calendar years in which Masvidal has fought at least once as a professional mixed martial artist. He went 4-0 in 2003, 1-0 in 2004, 1-2 in 2005, 4-0 in 2006, 3-0 in 2007, 3-1 in 2008, 3-1 in 2009, 1-2 in 2010, 2-1 in 2011, 1-0 in 2012, 2-1 in 2013, 3-0 in 2014, 1-2 in 2015, 2-1 in 2016, 1-2 in 2017, 3-0 in 2019, 0-1 in 2020 and 0-1 in 2021.

2: Sub-minute finishes on the Masvidal resume. He struck down Brant Rose with punches in 56 seconds at a Crazy Horse Fights show on Dec. 11, 2007 and famously knocked out the aforementioned Askren with a flying knee in five seconds at UFC 239 on July 6, 2019.

323: Combined wins between the 14 men—Usman (twice), Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia, Lorenz Larkin, Benson Henderson, Al Iaquinta, Rustam Khabilov, Gilbert Melendez, Paul Daley, Luis Palomino, Toby Imada, Rodrigo Damm, Paul Rodriguez and Raphael Assuncao—who have beaten Masvidal.
