New-breed light heavyweight contenders will lock horns in the UFC on ESPN 23 main event when Dominick Reyes confronts former Rizin Fighting Federation champion Jiri Prochazka this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Neither man can afford to take a step back in a division currently ruled by Jan Blachowicz.

Reyes finds himself on the rebound following back-to-back defeats. The Cage Combat Academy export last appeared at UFC 253, where he succumbed to second-round punches from Blachowicz in what amounted to a title eliminator on Sept. 26. Prochazka, meanwhile, enters the cage on the strength of an 11-fight winning streak. He made his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut in July, when he knocked out Volkan Oezdemir in the second round of their UFC 251 pairing.

As Reyes and Prochazka move toward their high-stakes showdown, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point.

31: Years of age for Reyes, who was born in Hesperia, California, on Dec. 26, 1989. “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” “Tango & Cash,” “The War of the Roses,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Back to the Future Part II” were the Top 5 movies at the domestic box office at the time.

4: Sub-minute stoppage victories on the Reyes resume. He submitted Jessie Glass with a guillotine choke in 55 seconds at a Gladiator Challenge event on April 3, 2015, wiped out Marcus Govan with a head kick in 27 seconds under the Hoosier Fight Club banner on Feb. 11, 2017, cut down Jordan Powell with a head kick in 53 seconds at a Legacy Fighting Alliance show on June 2, 2017 and put away Joachim Christensen with punches in 29 seconds at UFC Fight Night 112 on June 25, 2017.

4.53: Strikes landed by Reyes per minute of UFC competition, placing him 10th on the promotion’s all-time list at 205 pounds. Only Sean O’Connell (5.46), Fabio Maldonado (5.40), Alessio Sakara (5.31), Luiz Cane (5.23), Ion Cutelaba (5.10), Volkan Oezdemir (5.03), Houston Alexander (4.78), Mike Rodriguez (4.67) and Forrest Griffin (4.59) have connected at a more prolific rate.

12: Significant strikes by which Reyes outlanded Jon Jones in his failed bid to capture the undisputed light heavyweight crown at UFC 247 in 2020. He outstruck Jones in the first, second and third rounds but left the cage empty-handed after losing a unanimous decision.

2: Reyes wins by submission, accounting for 17% of his career total (12). His methods of choice: one rear-naked choke and one guillotine choke. He owns seven other victories by knockout or technical knockout and three more by decision.

28: Years of age for Prochazka, who was born on Oct. 14, 1992 in Hosteradice, Czech Republic—a village of roughly 1,600 people on the southern side of the European nation.

24: Prochazka wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 89% of his career total (27). His list of victims includes Muhammad Lawal, Vadim Nemkov, Brandon Halsey and C.B. Dollaway. Prochazka owns two other victories by submission and one more by decision.

1,948: Days since Prochazka last tasted defeat. He was victimized in a first-round knockout against Lawal on New Year’s Eve in 2015, then proceeded to rattle off 11 straight victories—a run that includes his aforementioned win over “King Mo,” which evened their head-to-head series at 1-1 and brought with it the inaugural Rizin Fighting Federation light heavyweight championship.

6: Countries in which Prochazka has competed as a mixed martial artist. He has gone 13-0 in the Czech Republic, 11-1 in Japan, 1-1-1 in Russia, 1-0 in Germany, 1-0 in the United Arab Emirates and 1-0 in Serbia.

23: First-round finishes to Prochazka’s credit, highlighted by his 53-second knockout of Stanislav Futera on April 7, 2012, his 26-second knockout of Radovan Estocin on May 10, 2013 and his 48-second technical knockout of Tomas Penz on June 6, 2014. Advertisement
