By The Numbers: Hector Lombard

Though his best days have long since passed, former Bellator MMA champion Hector Lombard believes he still has something to offer.

The longtime American Top Team staple will face Anthony Smith in a three-round middleweight showcase at UFC Fight Night 116 this Saturday at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, where he aims to put an end to a career-worst three-fight losing streak. Lombard owns a disappointing 3-5 record inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship and has not competed since he wound up on the wrong side of a split decision against four-time NCAA All-American Johny Hendricks at UFC Fight Night 105 in February. Historically one of MMA’s most devastating offensive fighters, “Showeather” has put away seven different opponents in less than a minute.

During a long and successful career that stretches back nearly 13 years, Lombard has compiled his share of intriguing statistical data:

1: Olympic teams made. Lombard represented Cuba in judo at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

3: Men other than Lombard who have won the Bellator middleweight championship. They are Alexander Shlemenko, Brandon Halsey and Rafael Carvalho.

12: Takedowns executed in his eight-fight UFC career. Lombard has scored takedowns against Hendricks (two), Dan Henderson (two), Neil Magny (one), Jake Shields (five) and Tim Boetsch (two).

20: First-round finishes to his credit. Lombard’s six-second knockout against Jay Silva at Bellator 18 remains the fastest stoppage in the promotion’s history.

25: Consecutive bouts without a loss. Lombard enjoyed a stretch of almost unimaginable success in his prime, going 24-0-1 between Feb. 16, 2007 and Nov. 19, 2011. Wins over Shlemenko, Jesse Taylor, Trevor Prangley, Brian Ebersole and James Te Huna highlighted his run, which was interrupted only by a July 2007 draw with Kyle Noke.

39: Years of age, making him the fifth-oldest middleweight on the active Ultimate Fighting Championship roster. Only Anderson Silva (42), Vitor Belfort (40), Yoel Romero (40) and Daniel Kelly (39) are older than Lombard.

76: Percentage of Lombard victories that have resulted in finishes.

200: Combined wins between the seven men who have defeated Lombard. They are Hendricks, Henderson, Magny, Boetsch, Yushin Okami, Gegard Mousasi and Akihiro Gono.

288: Total strikes absorbed during his current three-fight losing streak.

1,281: Days since his most recent victory. Lombard has not won a fight since he took a three-round unanimous decision from Shields at UFC 171 on March 15, 2014.
